CBR1000RR super sports bike
This year the CBR1000RR super sports bike, popular for its high performance and stylish design, has undergone a full model change, featuring the latest in advanced technologies honed in Honda’s MotoGP (FIM* Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix) machines. The engine and frame construction have been changed along with the fairing design for weight reduction and greater concentration of mass.
Husqvarna TC450 Prototype
Husqvarna Motorcycles has taken a big step in the dirt bike market ever since being acquired by BMW Motorrad. The combination of the two thus far has been mostly the application of the German’s purchasing power, marketing and production and refining techniques. The world has been waiting for a blend of the two manufacturers’ dirt bikes, and it’s finally happened with a prototype TC450 motocross machine. During our trip to the factory in Varese, Italy to ride the TE630, Husky reps promised a joint-effort bike very soon, and here it is. Husqvarna reports that the same platform will serve a TXC450 cross country and TE450 dual sport dirt bike.

The Austrian marque will display two versions of the new design, an enduro and supermoto, at the Tokyo Motorcycle Show (March 26-28 – not to be confused with the Tokyo Motor Show in October). KTM Freeride A lithium-ion battery provides power to the Freeride’s 2.5KW motor, with peak power claims of 30 hp and 31.7 lb-ft torque. Top speed is 70 km/h, that’s 43.5 mph for stateside readers, with the battery good for “approximately one hour” of “mixed off-road riding.” The plug-in battery can reach full recharge in 90 minutes, “but it can also be simply and quickly removed and replaced with another.” The battery is also good for a 500-recharge lifecycle.

The big change in the motor department is the fitment of a simple and lightweight fuel-injection system. The setup is similar to the one employed on the 2009-and-up KX450F. A slew of componentry replaces the mechanics of a carburetor including an electronic control unit, 43mm diameter throttle body, aluminum fuel pump and a single injector which no doubt adds a small amount of weight. Fuel capacity is also down 0.2-gallons.
